Before installing any update, it is always wise to make a full back-up of your system. In connection with this update, we would recommend at a minimum that you back-up your BKMENU.ARY and BKMENUW.ARY files along with the F*.B files contained in your ADV51 subdirectory and your BKPR*.RUN program files simply as a precaution. No existing data files (BK*.B*) are changed by this update. One new data file layout (BKPRW2 - W-2 history file) is added by the update. Payroll option G in the menu (ARY) files, will be changed to read "Print W-2s & W-2 History."

1. If you have received the update via diskette, insert the diskette into your 3.5" drive (if you are on a network, it does not matter which computer on the network that you do this on as along as you can run Advanced Accounting from that computer); if you have received the update via E-mail or from our web site, download (save) the files PR98.RUN and PR98.EXE to your ADV51 installation subdirectory. (If you do not know where ADV51 is installed, go into the "DOS" mode of Advanced Accounting, select U-Utilities and then C-Run DOS Command and type: DIR /P and press ENTER. The ADV51 installation path will appear after the words "Directory of " - make a note of that and then press CTL-C and ENTER to abort.)
2. Enter the DOS mode of Advanced Accounting 5.1 and select U-Utilities and then A-Run TAS program. If you are installing from a diskette, in response to program name type A:\PR98 (or B:\PR98 if your 3.5" drive is B:). If you are installing from an E-mail or web site download, just type PR98 and press ENTER. (Advanced Accounting is normally started in the DOS mode via the ADV.BAT file. You could also start the update program by typing TPC50 and the program path/name at the ADV51 prompt, e.g. TPC50 A:\PR98.)
3. If installing by diskette, you will next be asked to verify whether the disk is inserted into drive A: or B: - if installing via a download, the program will look for the PR98.EXE file and verify that you want to proceed with the installation.
4. From this point simply follow the program prompts. When through the install program will return you to your desktop or DOS prompt.

NOTE: if you used the "Multi Company Maint" feature to create a snapshot of your company's data before running the updated W-2 program and will be printing W-2's from that copy of your data, you will need to copy the file BKPRW2.BXX (where XX is the multiple company code) to the "real" BKPRW2.B file otherwise you will not have the W-2 history information available in your main system.
