Musser Vibraphone
Free personal use downloads and sample clips of solo vibraphone (aka vibraharp or vibes) and with other instruments (and including some pieces that feature the piano) performed and composed (except where indicated) by Tony Frates (which as samples/examples are entirely or mostly unedited).

We hate to classify music. Nonetheless, our music most often is either jazz or jazz influenced. As with most other jazz musicians, however, we enjoy playing in other styles as well including classical.

There are many web resources that explain what a vibraphone is along with its relatively short but rich history. The discussion on Wikipedia has evolved to become perhaps as good as any other single reference. A common mischaracterization however is reference to the vibraphone as a part of the percussion family (and its teaching as a part of that group). The vibraphone is no more of a percussion instrument than the piano. It is no more logical for a drummer to play the vibes than it would be to play the accordian, organ, guitar or violin. There is absolutely nothing wrong with a drummer or "percussionist" learning to play the vibes; but it is not a percussion instrument. The most logical path to learn how to play the vibraphone is to first learn how to play the piano (and to acquire a related understanding of musical harmony and theory) and then marimba (or xylophone). Only when some minimum level of basic mastery is obtained in this regard should the vibraphone be attempted.
