Disappearing sales order line item notes

When entering a note attached to a sales order line item in Advanced Accounting 5.1 (sales order A program BKSOA.RUN dated 8/97 or later) be careful when indenting text from the left margin with spaces if you intend to later printer the note (typically when attached to a sales order line item). Normally when typing a note, a user will simply type in free form, narrative text which will automatically wrap such as this paragragh.

Be wary of typing a note like this however where each line is followed by an ENTER keypress and indented with spaces:

THIS IS NOTE LINE ONE FOLLOWED BY AN ENTER.
HERE IS NOTE LINE TWO FOLLWED BY AN ENTER.
AND HERE IS THE LAST LINE OF THIS NOTE.

The above note will show up on the screen for editing/reference purposes but it will NOT print (nor display properly if a sales order or invoice containing the note is sent to the screen). The general rule is that the last line of the note must have some text that extends either to the left margin OR AT LEAST ONE SPACE TO THE LEFT OF THE LINE ABOVE IT IF THE LINE ABOVE IS INDENTED. For example

THIS IS NOTE LINE ONE FOLLOWED BY AN ENTER.
HERE IS NOTE LINE TWO FOLLWED BY AN ENTER.
AND HERE IS THE LAST LINE OF THIS NOTE.

The above note will print in full. Only two of three lines will print however in connection with this note:

THIS IS NOTE LINE ONE FOLLOWED BY AN ENTER.
HERE IS NOTE LINE TWO FOLLWED BY AN ENTER.
AND HERE IS THE LAST LINE OF THIS NOTE.

(i.e., the last line of the note will not print at all).

And only the first line will print in connection with this note:

THIS IS NOTE LINE ONE FOLLOWED BY AN ENTER.
HERE IS NOTE LINE TWO FOLLWED BY AN ENTER.
AND HERE IS THE LAST LINE OF THIS NOTE.

But this next note will print/display in full. Note that the last line is one space to the left of the indented line above it.

THIS IS NOTE LINE ONE FOLLOWED BY AN ENTER.
HERE IS NOTE LINE TWO FOLLWED BY AN ENTER.
AND HERE IS THE LAST LINE OF THIS NOTE.

In version 5.0 and the initial release of this program, the TAS function WRAPS (determines the size of a field that has been wrapped) was used in checking to determine if a note had been printed fully. (And the same command continues to be used in the TASNOTES report option). However, in connection with the printing of sales orders and invoices, it was discovered that the use of WRAPS added undesirable line feeds (spaces) between line items. It was determined by Business Tools that use of the WRAPL function (returns a line from a field that has been wrapped) would eliminate the undesirable line feeds. The negative consequence of using WRAPL however is the problem above: if the last "line" of the note is indented, the WRAPL command thinks that the line counter is blank (actually "zero') and the result is that the full note is not printed.
